BOSTON — The injury bug just got very real for the Boston Bruins.
The Black and Gold are already missing a significant chunk of their NHL roster due to injury, including stars Torey Krug and Jake DeBrusk. Now, they lose their best all-around player. Patrice Bergeron is out of the lineup against the Washington Capitals, with a lower body injury.
Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said that Bergeron is “day-to-day”, and would have played if it weren’t a back-to-back situation after last night’s win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto. But time will tell if the injury forces him to miss any additional time.
“He finished last night in discomfort,” said Cassidy of Bergeron, who played 16:48 of ice time and took 27 faceoffs. “If it wasn’t back-to-back, we think he’d play. We don’t want him to miss four or five games.”
It appeared that Bergeron suffered the injury during the second period of the Toronto win, when he was hauled down awkwardly after an offensive zone faceoff on a power play possession. His lower body appeared to buckle as he was taken down to the ice, and he moved a bit slowly after getting up. He finished the shift, and the rest of the game, without incident.
B's get back to 'how we want to play' in win vs. Leafs
With Bergeron on the shelf for Saturday night’s game vs. Washington, David Krejci will be centering David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand in a role he flourished in offensively last season while Bergeron was injured.

It goes without saying, though, that the B’s missing Bergeron, Krug, DeBrusk and Backes among others is beginning to take a lot of offensive weapons off the board for the Black and Gold. It’s going to be much more difficult to manufacture offense while they are out.
It also goes without saying that given his well-documented willingness to play through just about anything, it's always cause for concern when Bergeron misses games due to injury,
