FINAL SCORE: Washington Capitals 2, Boston Bruins 1

IN BRIEF: What happened to the Boston Bruins?

The Bruins lost their NHL round robin finale Sunday afternoon to the Washington Capitals. Boston was outscored 9-4 in these three games, and as a result of finishing at the bottom of the round robin standings, the B's will be the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs despite winning the Presidents' Trophy during the regular season.

The Bruins showed a little fight in the third period and cut the lead in half on a Jake DeBrusk goal, but they weren't able to finish the comeback. Boston's power play never scored in the round robin (0-for-9), the top line tallied one point in the three games and the goaltending wasn't anything spectacular.

The B's must give a much better effort to avoid a first-round playoff upset to the Carolina Hurricanes.

HIGHLIGHTS

The Bruins outshot the Capitals 6-2 in the first period and played pretty well overall in the opening 20 minutes, but Washington went into the intermission on top thanks to a T.J. Oshie goal with 16 seconds remaining.

After a scoreless second period, it didn't take long for the Capitals to double their lead in the third period. Capitals forward Tom Wilson beat Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask glove side 2:49 into the final frame.

The Bruins were desperate for a goal and Jake DeBrusk finally answered the ball at 10:30 of the third period. It was DeBrusk's first goal of the round robin and trimmed Washington's lead to 2-1.
