As if a season-ending loss to the Carolina Hurricanes wasn't enough, Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is also lighter in the wallet a day later.

Though he wasn't issued a penalty for it during the 3-2 loss at PNC Arena, McAvoy was fined $5,000, the maximum allowed per the CBA, for tripping Carolina blue liner Brady Skjei in the third period of Game 7.

McAvoy assisted on both of Boston's goals during 27:52 of ice time in Raleigh, the highest total in the game for either team.

In addition to McAvoy, Hurricanes defenseman Brendan Smith was issued a $2,000 fine, the maximum allowed, for elbowing David Pastrnak. Like McAvoy, Smith wasn't penalized during the game itself.
