Celtics putting up unprecedented numbers over 8-game win streak

Share

Remember when the Celtics were 10-10 and so-called basketball experts weren't just jumping off the bandwagon but were actively fleeing the scene?

Safe to say they're singing a different tune now that Boston has reeled off an 8-game win streak, tied for the longest run in the NBA this season.

And the C's aren't just winning these games, they're absolutely crushing the competition in a fashion never before seen from the winningest franchise in NBA history.

That's right. No Celtics team has ever outscored their opponents by more points over an 8-game span. Not in the glory days with Russell, Heinsohn and Cousy. Not in the 70s with Cowens and Havlicek. Not in the 80s with Bird, McHale and Parish. Not even in the 2000s when Garnett, Pierce and Allen were roaming the parquet.

Of course, it helps when one of those wins was another franchise record -- a 56-point drubbing of the Bulls.

The next team that will try to stop this freight train is the Pistons, Saturday night in Detroit.
