Celtics Talk: Should the C's re-sign Evan Fournier?

The Boston Celtics are expected to be among the most active teams in the league this offseason. In fact, they've already shaken things up by trading away Kemba Walker, making Brad Stevens their new president of basketball operations, and hiring Ime Udoka as their new head coach.

One lingering question is Evan Fournier's future in Boston. Acquired at the 2020-21 trade deadline, Fournier appeared in 16 games for the C's averaging 13.0 points and 29.5 minutes per game. Will Stevens and the Celtics opt to re-sign the 28-year-old wing? If so, what could the deal look like?

Chris Forsberg and Boston Sports Journal's John Karalis discussed on a brand new episode of the Celtics Talk Podcast.

"I feel like he's the first [domino] to fall," Karalis said. "Because you have to know what you're looking for, and looking at the options that are out there, Evan Fournier's the best of the options because you have his Bird rights and could theoretically sign him to anything. So, you're not limited by taxpayer midlevel, you're not limited by the size of the traded player exception. You've got a good player that you can figure out exactly how you want to use him and the first step is figuring out does he fit into your plans financially. ...

"I think somewhere in the three years, $50 million range, something around there would get it done. Something with an average annual value of $15 million or so. That would be a good value and very tradeable."
