New Celtic Moses Brown confirms Boston jersey number on IG

Moses Brown has chosen his Boston Celtics jersey number, although he might need a bigger size than the uniform's previous inhabitants.

The 21-year-old big man shared an Instagram post Monday featuring himself photoshopped into a Celtics No. 9 jersey. He tweeted four shamrock emojis and tagged his new team in the post.

Brown and Al Horford came over from the Thunder in the June 18 trade that sent Kemba Walker to Oklahoma City. NBA writer Steve Bulpett first reported Sunday that Brown will wear No. 9 in Boston -- he also wore No. 9 in OKC -- while Horford will don the No. 42 he wore during his first Celtics stint from 2017 to 2019.

The most notable Celtics player to rep No. 9 is Rajon Rondo, who won an NBA title as Boston's starting point guard in 2008 and spent eight-plus seasons with the C's.

Outside Rondo, it's not a very star-studded list: The four players to wear No. 9 since Rondo's departure are Demetrious Jackson, Jarrell Eddie, Xavier Silas and Brad Wanamaker.

Brown has some potential to buck that trend, though. The 7-foot-2 big man averaged 8.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game for the Thunder last season and exploded for 21 points and 23 rebounds against the Celtics on March 27. If all goes well, he could give the C's a frontcourt spark plug off the bench behind Horford and Robert Williams.
