Report: Doc Rivers to join Sixers as head coach

Doc Rivers is back in the Eastern Conference.

The former Boston Celtics head coach has agreed on a deal to become the next head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Rivers was fired by the Los Angeles Clippers earlier in the week after L.A. blew a 3-1 series lead to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semifinals. The Sixers and New Orleans Pelicans reportedly were the two teams to immediately show interest in Rivers, and Philly apparently got the deal done.

The 76ers fired head coach Brett Brown in August following the team's first-round playoff loss to the Celtics.

Rivers spent nine years in Boston, helping the Celtics earn an NBA championship in 2008. Now, he'll look to do the same with one of the C's biggest rivals.
