WATCH: Steph Curry breaks Ray Allen's 3-point record

The record for 3-point field goals made in a career, which Ray Allen set as a member of the Boston Celtics, is no more.

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry surpassed the Hall of Famer on Tuesday night in a game against the New York Knicks, connecting on the 2,974th 3-pointer of his career.

He shared a moment with Allen immediately after breaking the record.

Curry, 33, set the mark in his 13th season and in his 789th game -- almost 300 games fewer than it took Allen to break Reggie Miller's mark on Feb. 10, 2011 for Boston against the Los Angeles Lakers.

When Allen broke Miller's mark, he did so in his 1,074th game, hitting the 2,561st trey of his career with Miller in attendance at the TD Garden. Allen, who played for the Milwaukee Bucks and Seattle SuperSonics prior to joining the Celtics, would go on to finish his career and extend the record with the Miami Heat before calling it quits after the 2013-14 season.

Barring injury, Curry could make the record next to impossible to top. James Harden, who was drafted in 2009 like Curry, is currently fourth on the all-time 3-pointers list with 2,509. Damian Lillard (2,109) and LeBron James (2,023) are the only other active players above 2,000 3-pointers made.

The active leader among Celtics is Marcus Smart, who had made 712 career 3-pointers entering Tuesday -- one more than Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins for 225th on the all-time list.
