This would be the perfect time for the New England Revolution to earn their first win over the Philadelphia Union in 2020.
The Revs and Union are set to face off Tuesday night in the first round of the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. In six meetings this year, New England is winless against Philadelphia.
Revolution head coach Bruce Arena previewed what he knows will be a difficult matchup against the Eastern Conference's top seed.
"Well, there are no secrets between these two teams," Arena said. "This is the sixth occasion we've played this year. And obviously, we haven't had a whole lot of success, so I don't think the bookmakers have us favored in this one.
"Their team is solid at both ends of the field. Probably one of the leaders in the league in goals scored as well as goals against, so it will be certainly a big challenge for our team."
Asked if he considers the first-round match a shot at "redemption," Arena made it clear he's approaching it like he would against any other opponent.
"I don't look at it as redemption," Arena said. "This is obviously an important game in the playoffs. It could be anybody we're playing. It's not redemption ... we want to win the game whether it's Philadelphia or somebody else. It's a game we want to win. I wouldn't call it redemption."
New England will look to carry momentum over from their thrilling Play-In Round victory over the Montreal Impact, when Gustavo Bou netted the game-winning goal in the 95th minute.
The Revs finished the regular season with an 8-7-8 record, 8th in the Eastern Conference. The Union earned the top spot in the East with a 14-5-4 record.
The match is set to kick off at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday on ESPN.
