Report: Pats ‘cautiously optimistic' about Adrian Phillips injury

The New England Patriots lost a key member of their secondary in Week 1 when Adrian Phillips exited due to injury. The starting safety went down with injured ribs in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins and did not return.

Fortunately for the Patriots' defense, it appears Phillips may not have to miss much time. The Score's Jordan Schultz reports the team is "cautiously optimistic" about Phillips' injury.

The team hasn't yet shared an official update on Phillips, but the report certainly is an encouraging sign. The Patriots' secondary could ill afford to lose another key piece.

Phillips posted three tackles, including a tackle for loss, before sustaining the injury. New England will hope to have him back on the field next Sunday when they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers.
