As the Red Sox' celebration of their World Series title winds down, the focus quickly shifts to free agency.
Nathan Eovaldi, Craig Kimbrel, Steve Pearce, Ian Kinsler, Joe Kelly, and Drew Pomeranz are all free agents, and according to Red Sox general manager Dave Dombrowski, all have "expressed desire" to return to Boston for another shot at a championship in 2019.
"We have an abundance of free agents," Dombrowski said per MassLive. "We have seven, so they're in different categories. Some of the guys that we'd like to re-sign, they know that. But they're also free agents. We'll continue staying in contact with them and see what happens. They know we're interested, but they also want to find out what the market is. All of them have expressed a desire to come back, but only time will tell."
Dombrowski notes he believes all of the Sox' free agents will keep in touch throughout the process.
"I think they all will stay in contact with us," he said. "I think most of them will do that, but if somebody says here's an offer that blows you away and you sign it right now or not, they'll probably sign it."
The Red Sox' offseason began with a qualifying offer to Craig Kimbrel, which the closer likely will reject as he explores his options on the market.
Dombrowski and the Sox front office have a challenging offseason ahead of them. Eovaldi, Kelly, and Pearce all dramatically increased their value in the postseason, and Kimbrel will be expensive despite his lackluster playoff performance.
