David Ortiz had third surgery to address gunshot wound ‘complications'

It appears David Ortiz's road to recovery will continue.

The former Boston Red Sox slugger recently underwent a third surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital to address "for complications resulting from his gunshot wound," his wife, Tiffany Ortiz, said in a statement Thursday.

Tiffany added her husband is "recovering well and in good spirits."

“We continue to be incredibly appreciative of the kindness and compassion shown to David and to our entire family during this difficult time," she added.

Ortiz was shot outside a bar in the Dominican Republic on June 10, opening a sprawling legal case that has resulted in more than 10 arrests. The 43-year-old was transported to Boston a day later and underwent two surgeries to repair damage to his liver and intestines.

Ortiz was moved out of Mass. General's intensive care unit on June 22 but now is entering his second month at the hospital.
