After parting ways with Joe Maddon, the Chicago Cubs' search for a new manager is underway.
Surely there will be a number of candidates vying for the prestigious position, but Cubs president Theo Epstein confirmed one interesting candidate in particular on Monday: former catcher David Ross.
Ross helped the Red Sox earn a World Series title in 2013, then did the same with the Cubs in 2016 before calling it a career. Since retiring, he's served as an ESPN analyst.
While Ross likely won't be a favorite for the job, the fact he's even being considered speaks volumes to how much his presence is valued within a MLB clubhouse. And considering the recent managerial successes of fellow player-turned-ESPN analysts Alex Cora and Aaron Boone, Ross' candidacy for the position should be taken seriously.
