Ex-Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski issues statement after firing

Former Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski issued his first statement since being fired on Monday morning.

The Red Sox made the news official with a press release on Monday, but owners John Henry and Tom Werner did not hold a press conference. Dombrowski's parting message was equally concise.

“Appreciative of my time here,” Dombrowski said per Boston Sports Journal's Sean McAdam. “Boston is a great baseball city. Had an exciting few years, however, this season did not go as we all planned. Enjoyed working with the personnel in our organization. However, respect ownership’s decision to make any changes they choose.”

Dombrowski was hired by the Red Sox in 2015 and helped Boston to three division titles as well as a 2018 World Series championship. This season hasn't been quite as successful, though, as the Red Sox currently are on the brink of missing the playoffs.

Assistant general managers Eddie Romero, Brian O’Halloran and Zack Scott will take over Dombrowski's position in the interim.
