FINAL SCORE: A's 1, Red Sox 0
IN BRIEF: Matt Chapman's home run off Chris Sale in the first inning was all the A's needed to send the Red Sox to their fourth loss in a row, 1-0 in Oakland. Sale (three-hit ball for six innings) pitched better than in the Sox opener but the bats stayed quiet in getting shut out for the second night in a row. The Sox did not have a four-game losing streak all last season. To add insult to injury, in the ninth inning, Xander Bogaerts missed a tying homer by a foot and was thrown out at third base trying to stretch the hit into a triple. BOX SCORE
