Drew Pomeranz wasn't exactly a fan favorite during his final season in Boston.
The left-hander, who came to the Red Sox via a trade with the San Diego Padres in 2016, struggled mightily in 2018 going 2-6 with a 6.08 ERA.
The transition from San Diego to Boston was a difficult one for Pomeranz, who was taken aback by just how brutal the rabid fanbase can be toward players who don't perform well. During a recent interview on the Section 10 Podcast, Pomeranz detailed the difficulty of that switch and mentioned how Red Sox fans reached out to him on Venmo (a mobile payment service) of all places to express their displeasure with his lackluster performance.
"It was crazy. It's a lot," Pomeranz told Section 10 host Jared Carrabis. "Like, you go from playing in San Diego where it's like a totally different world. I feel like most people would rather go to the beach sometimes than get on social media or come to the games.
"The craziest part was I had people finding me on Venmo, sending me money just to tell me that I sucked."
That sure is a wild way of receiving negative feedback, but Pomeranz has a sense of humor about it.

"They paid me like 50 cents and I thanked them for their money," he said.
Fortunately for the 30-year-old, he seemingly has revitalized his career as an effective arm out of the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen. After being dealt from the San Francisco Giants at the trade deadline, Pomeranz has posted a 2.35 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 22 appearances with the Brew Crew, who are on the verge of earning a wild-card spot.
Ironically, the Red Sox probably could have used Pomeranz's production throughout what's been a nightmarish 2019 season for the pitching staff.
