Cross Mike Hazen off the Red Sox' list of possible Dave Dombrowski replacements.

The Diamondbacks general manager, who once served under Dombrowski in Boston, signed a contract extension on Friday to stay in Arizona, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hazen joined the Red Sox organization in 2006 as director of player development, then eventually was promoted to vice president of player development and amateur scouting in 2011.

The 43-year-old served as Ben Cherington's assistant GM in early 2015, then as GM under Dombrowski's watch later that year. Hazen was hired to the Diamondbacks' front office in 2016.

Dombrowski was fired on Monday amidst a disappointing season for the defending World Series champions. Assistant general managers Eddie Romero, Brian O’Halloran and Zack Scott have been taking over Dombrowski's position in the interim.
