MLB 2019 MyTeams Preview: Red Sox bullpen a question mark

Share

Throughout the Red Sox historic regular season and World Series run, the main concern surrounding the team was their bullpen.

The starting rotation was solid, led by Chris Sale, Rick Porcello, David Price and trade deadline acquisition Nathan Eovaldi. With the J.D. Martinez signing, the Red Sox finally had the slugger they needed to make their lineup a nightmare for opposing pitchers.

The bullpen was the issue, but they stepped up when it mattered. This year, it's the same story, but it's probably more concerning this time around.

With all the warts the Red Sox bullpen had, Craig Kimbrel was at least there to close things down in the ninth. Along with Kimbrel's 42 saves, Joe Kelly's inconsistencies were ultimately masked by his electrifying performances in the postseason.

Both pitchers are not on the Red Sox 2019 roster, so it will be up to Alex Cora to maximize this group again with less talent.

Trenni Kusnierek joins David Kaplan on the MyTeams app 2019 MLB Preview Show to talk about the Red Sox bullpen, Chris Sale's contract extension, and the big name pending free-agents for Boston.
