The Boston Red Sox will have to wait a little longer to find out if they will be punished by Major League Baseball for stealing signs.
The Associated Press reported Tuesday that the MLB's investigation will extend into spring training and a ruling won't come this week. The Red Sox are scheduled to play their first spring training game Saturday, Feb. 22 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Red Sox players already have begun arriving in Fort Myers, Fla., for the beginning of spring training activities. The AP's report comes about a week after MLB commissioner Rob Manfred told reporters, "I’m hopeful I can get Boston done before the camps open. I’d like to have this over."
The Red Sox are being investigated for illegally stealing signs in 2018. Boston won 108 regular season games and the World Series that season. They were managed by Alex Cora, who was named in the MLB's scathing report released in January detailing the Houston Astros' sign-stealing operation used over the last few years. Cora was the Astros' bench coach in 2017 before the Red Sox hired him as their new manager before the 2018 season.
The league said it would not announce any punishment for Cora until after the investigation into the Red Sox had completed. Cora and the Red Sox mutually agreed to part ways a few days after the MLB handed down major punishment to the Astros.
The Red Sox named Ron Roenicke as the team's interim manager Tuesday.
