The Boston Red Sox' search for rotation reinforcements is underway.
The Red Sox are among the teams that have expressed "initial interest" in free-agent right-hander Matt Shoemaker, MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported Sunday.
Shoemaker began his major league career with a stellar 2014 season for the Los Angeles Angels, posting a 16-4 record and 3.04 ERA to finish second in the American League Rookie of the Year race.

The 34-year-old spent six seasons in Los Angeles before joining the Blue Jays in 2019, when his season was cut short in April due to a torn ACL.
Shoemaker posted a 4.71 ERA over six starts for Toronto this season and started Game 1 of the team's Wild Card Round series with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Shoemaker has battled several injuries in recent years and hasn't started more than 10 games in a season since 2017.
