The Boston Red Sox are slowly progressing in their quest to hire a new manager.
The Red Sox have interviewed bench coach Ron Roenicke and third base coach Carlos Febles for their vacant manager role, MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo reported Tuesday.
Boston reportedly interviewed Arizona Diamondbacks bench coach Luis Urueta last Friday as they search to replace Alex Cora, whom the Red Sox parted ways with on Jan. 15 due to his involvement in the Houston Astros' 2017 sign-stealing scandal.
The club also had interest in Mark Kotsay, per reports, but the Oakland Athletics quality control coach is out of the running, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Roenicke and Febles appear to be the first internal candidates Boston has interviewed, as both Red Sox assistants are among the favorites to replace Cora as the next Red Sox manager.
Roenicke has 673 games of managerial experience with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2011 to 2015 and would be a steadying presence after Cora's sudden departure.

The bilingual Febles was a trusted member of Cora's staff and has been in the Red Sox organization since 2007, recently serving as manager of the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs in 2017.
Boston is the last team without a manager with pitchers and catchers set to report to spring training next Tuesday. The latest reports suggested the Sox could land on a new hire this week, though, and it appears they're trending in that direction.
