Mookie Betts, Alex Cora and other Red Sox react to Dave Dombrowski firing

The Red Sox made a surprising move Sunday night by firing President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski after a 10-5 loss to the Yankees.

Not even a full season after the team Dombrowski built won a World Series, they have parted ways and will have their three Assistant General Manager's assume his responsibilities for the remainder of the 2019 campaign.

Boston is 76-67 on the year and has not performed even close to the same level they did in 2018. Most of the blame can fall on the pitching staff, both starters and relievers. Dombrowski committed a ton of resources into complementing his lineup with stable pitching, but it just hasn't worked out this season.

Members of the team who addressed the media after Sunday's game, needless to say, were surprised at the news.

Since the Red Sox hired Dombrowski in the summer of 2015, they've won three consecutive division titles and a World Series championship. Usually, executives with that kind of track record have mountains of job security, but Boston isn't like most places.

The team plans to make a formal announcement until tomorrow.
