Mookie Betts appears to be favoring right wrist after collision with fence

NEW YORK -- A trying season for Mookie Betts got a little worse on Tuesday night in Yankee Stadium.

Betts appeared to experience discomfort in his right wrist chasing a Clint Frazier home run in the fourth inning. He crashed into the right-field fence at the apex of his leap off a dead sprint. Betts missed the ball by inches while reaching over his head, and then absorbed the contact with his right arm before slamming into the fence and falling to the turf.

He remained in the game, but could be seen flexing his wrist both in the outfield and after a groundout in the sixth.

He remained in the game, however, and after the game said he was fine.

"It's fine," Betts said. "Took a couple of seconds to loosen up."

Asked if it impacted his swing at the plate, Betts said, "No, it's perfectly fine."

After going 0-for-3 with a walk, Betts saw his average drop to .212. This comes one day after he told reporters that the way he's playing this season is "unacceptable."
