Mookie Betts joins elite company after scoring 75th run of the season

Once Mookie Betts came around to score on a groundout by Rafael Devers, he joined a very exclusive club of baseball greats.

In scoring his 75th run of the season, Betts became the fifth player in baseball history to score that many runs before the All-Star break three separate times in his career. He joins Rickey Henderson, Ted Williams, Bobby Bonds and Todd Helton, according to the Red Sox.

This is the second straight season in which Betts has reached the 75-run mark, with the other instance coming in 2016. Betts and Williams are the only players on this list to win the MVP award in the same year. Betts won in 2018, Williams in 1946 and 1949.

Of course, this hasn't been the best year for Betts considering his standards. After winning the batting title (.346) to go along with the MVP award last season, he suffered a slow start and is continuing to work his way back. Betts is currently sporting a .268/.388/.458 slash line with 13 home runs and 38 RBI. His strikeout total is much higher than it's ever been, but perhaps the second half of the season will be different.

For the Red Sox sake, let's hope so.
