Following their win over the Angels on Thursday night, the Red Sox announced they required 1B/OF Steve Pearce from the Blue Jays.
Boston sent minor league infielder Santiago Espinal to Toronto in the deal.
Pearce serves as a right-handed bat that fares well against left-handed pitching. The 35-year-old veteran adds depth off the bench as an option at DH, first base, and both left and right field. He has slashed .291/.349/.519 in 26 games with the Blue Jays this season.
