Red Sox lose player personnel exec Jared Banner to the Mets

The Red Sox have lost another key front office executive to the New York Mets.

Jared Banner is leaving the Red Sox organization to become the new farm director for the Mets. Banner, 32, was the VP of player personnel in Boston. The Brooklyn native grew up a Mets fan.

Banner's ascension in the Sox organization was rapid. A former college baseball player, Banner was hired by the Red Sox in 2007 after an internship with the team. He rose in the ranks as a scout in his 10 years with the team and was eventually part of the group that interviewed Alex Cora before last season.

Banner becomes the second Sox executive to join the Mets front office overhaul. New York has sought to surround agent-turned-GM Brodie Van Wagenen with talented and experienced front office personnel.

Allard Baird, formerly Sox senior vice president/player personnel, joined the Mets less than two weeks ago.

The movement within the front office hasn't slowed Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, who signed Nathan Eovaldi to a four-year, $68 million contract on Thursday.
