Alex Cora is happy to see a former teammate and fellow Puerto Rican earn an MLB managerial position.

Carlos Beltran was hired to be the New York Mets' manager on Friday. The nine-time All-Star, who played with Cora on the Mets in 2009 and 2010, will replace Mickey Callaway.

Shortly after news surfaced of the hiring, Cora tweeted his excitement.

Translation: “My friend Carlos Beltran gives us another reason to smile. [Edwin Rodriguez) opened the door, we’re seen as capable and the opportunities keep coming. [Puerto Rico] will have four managers in the Major Leagues. Like Dave [Martinez]showed this season, it can be done.”

Cora, Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo, Nationals manager Dave Martinez, and now Beltran are the four Puerto Rican big-league managers. Martinez led the Nats to a World Series title in 2019, one year after Cora did the same in his first season with Boston.
