David Price won't soon forget the 2018 season.
The Boston Red Sox starter proved many of his doubters wrong by playing an important role in his team defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the World Series, and his trophy cabinet added another piece of hardware Tuesday when he was named 2018 American League Comeback Player of the Year.
The 33-year-old left hander pitched in 16 games last season. He started 11 of them. Price bounced back from injury and pitched and started in 30 games this season. He posted a 16-7 record with a 3.38 ERA, 177 strikeouts and 50 walks over 176 innings.
The postseason was where Price really shined. He had dealt with playoff struggles his entire career, but he went 3-1 with a 3.46 ERA in six postseason appearances during Boston's championship run. He also was the winning pitcher in the clinching game of the ALCS and World Series.
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Jonny Venters won the NL Comeback Player of the Year award.
