Red Sox place Tanner Houck on injured list

The Boston Red Sox added yet another name to the injured list on Tuesday.

Right-hander Tanner Houck was placed on the 15-day IL due to lower back inflammation, retroactive to Aug. 6. The team announced right-hander Kaleb Ort was recalled from Triple-A Worcester to replace Houck on the roster.

Houck joins several key Red Sox players on the IL, including second baseman Trevor Story (wrist), reliever Matt Strahm (wrist), Michael Wacha (shoulder), utility man Kiké Hernandez (hip), Rob Refsnyder (knee), right-hander Brayan Bello (groin), and left-hander Chris Sale (finger, wrist). The 26-year-old has a 3.15 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP in 32 appearances (four starts) this season.

Ort, 30, has posted a 3.03 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 48 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings for Triple-A Worcester. He has made 10 appearances with the big-league club this season, allowing 13 runs on 19 hits and six walks in 12 1/3 innings.

Boston (54-56) begins a two-game set vs. the Atlanta Braves (64-46) on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET at Fenway Park.
