Red Sox set several records in blowout win over Yankees

The Red Sox put on a show Thursday night vs. the Yankees, setting several records in their 19-3 victory.

They set the tone early with a seven-run first inning, which marked their first time scoring that many runs in the first inning vs. New York since 1989.

The entire lineup kept its foot on the pedal throughout the game. Boston had eight players with two or more RBI to tie the most by an American League team since the Rangers did so in their 30-3 win over the Orioles in 2007.

The Red Sox' 18th run scored on Thursday set a franchise record for most runs ever in a game vs. their archrival.

But wait, there's more. Boston tallied 14 extra-base hits in the blowout to tie for its second-most in a single game.

Last but not least, the Red Sox set season-highs in runs (19), hits (23), extra-base hits (14), and doubles (10).

What we're trying to say here is what they did to begin their four-game series vs. the Yankees simply was historic. Boston will look to carry its momentum into Game 2 of the series on Friday night, when newcomer Andrew Cashner takes on Yankees southpaw James Paxton.
