The Boston Red Sox bolstered their outfield depth on Friday.
Bradley Zimmer, a veteran outfielder and former top prospect, signed a minor-league deal with the club on Friday. He will be assigned to Triple-A Worcester.

Zimmer was selected by the Cleveland Guardians in the first round of the 2014 MLB Draft. The 30-year-old has 372 games of MLB experience with stints in Cleveland (2017-21), Toronto (2022), and Philadelphia (2022). He started the 2023 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City.
Across six big-league seasons, Zimmer has hit .213 with 21 homers and a .631 OPS. He offers little upside at the plate but brings value with his speed, defensive prowess, and versatility with his ability to play all three outfield spots.
Zimmer joins a Worcester outfield group that includes Wilyer Abreu, Greg Allen, Nick Sogard, Narciso Crook and Marcus Wilson. Boston has five outfielders currently on its MLB roster with one more -- Adam Duvall -- nearing a return from the injured list.
