Andrew Benintendi's self-inflicted wound will keep him out of the Boston Red Sox's only morning game of the year.
The Red Sox outfielder, who fouled a ball off his right foot Sunday, is out of the lineup for Boston's Patriots' Day matchup with the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.
Second baseman Dustin Pedroia will bat leadoff in Benintendi's stead, while Blake Swihart will make his first start of the season in left field.
Jackie Bradley Jr. also remains out due to illness, so Mookie Betts will man center field and J.D. Martinez will play right field with Steve Pearce taking designated hitter duties.
The Red Sox will send right-hander Hector Velazquez to the mound for the 11:05 a.m. ET start. Boston was hit with heavy rain Monday morning that could dampen the 2019 Boston Marathon, but the weather should clear in time for first pitch at Fenway Park.
UPDATE (9:30 a.m. ET): The Red Sox issued a bizarre lineup update Monday morning, shifting catcher Christian Vazquez to second base as Dustin Pedroia moved to designated hitter.
It's Vazquez's first MLB start at second base, as he's played just four games in the field (all at third base) in his MLB career. Vazquez did play one game at second base in 2010 with the Class-A Greenville Drive.
