Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright has been suspended 80 games after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, per Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
The drug Wright tested positive for was a growth hormone, and he says he is "shocked" by the results.
Here's the Red Sox' official statement on the matter:
Wright missed almost all of the 2017 season and part of the 2018 campaign with a left knee injury. He underwent surgery on the knee during the offseason.
The 34-year-old also was suspended 15 games to start the '18 season for violating the league's domestic-violence policy.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he is "disappointed" by Wright's suspension.
A positive PED test means Wright would be ineligible to play in the postseason.
