Since joining the Boston Red Sox, rookie Michael Chavis has had a massive impact on the team's roster. Before Chavis' arrival, the Red Sox were struggling to hit. Now, they're starting to heat up a bit, and Chavis is playing a role in that. And his numbers prove that.
According to Justin Long of Sox Notes, since joining the team, Chavis has tied for the most home runs across the major leagues and is leading the Red Sox in some other major offensive categories.
Recently, Chavis' success continued against the Chicago White Sox. In four games against them, Chavis went 6-16 with three homers, five RBIs, and four walks.
Chavis' power and bat have been nice, but his defense and ability to play the field has been solid and surprising as well. He has a .967 fielding percentage and has only two errors total, both coming at second base (a position he only played five times as a professional before reaching the majors).
Even more importantly, the Red Sox have a 10-5 record in the games that Chavis has played in. He has helped them get back to their winning ways, and he will undoubtedly remain on the major league roster as long he is healthy and hitting well.

It will be interesting to see if Chavis forces the Sox into a roster crunch. Both Brock Holt and Dustin Pedroia are trying to work their way back from injuries, and if they return, the team will have a decision to make about their bench depth.
