WATCH: Red Sox run flawless relay to reject Judge at plate

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge is known for many things on a baseball field, but his speed probably isn't anywhere near the top of that list.

Certainly, Judge isn't the kind of player you'd think capable of scoring from first base on a ball in play to the outfield, not even in the cavernous center field at Fenway Park. But that didn't stop Yankees third base coach Phil Nevin from waving Judge home on a Giancarlo Stanton single which smacked off the Green Monster in the top of the sixth inning, with disastrous results for the Bronx Bombers.

The Yankees had begun to cobble some momentum together after Anthony Rizzo homered to right with one out to make it a 3-1 game and Judge reached on an infield single.

Kyle Schwarber's solo shot prompts great reaction from David Ortiz

Had Judge held at third base, New York could have had runners at the corners with one out and a shot at getting to the Red Sox bullpen sooner following Alex Cora's hook of starter Nathan Eovaldi.

Instead, Kiké Hernandez connected with cutoff man Xander Bogaerts, who delivered a perfect strike to catcher Kevin Plawecki, who applied the tag in plenty of time to nab Judge for an 8-6-2 putout in your scorebook.

Perhaps Yankees fans can take solace in the fact that Nevin, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1992 MLB Draft, went off the board five picks before New York landed Derek Jeter. Things were bound to even out at some point.
