With the No. 255 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected North Carolina State punter Trenton Gill.

That's right, the Bears drafted a punter. And he was the fourth punter drafted in 2022, a record.

The Bears needed to replace longtime punter Pat O'Donnell, who signed with the Green Bay Packers this offseason.

Gill was a First Team All-ACC player. In 2022, Gill led the ACC with an average of 45.1 yards per punt and led the conference twice in yards per punt.

When Day 3 began, the Bears only had three picks. Thanks to a flurry of trades, general manager managed to amass eight total picks between Rounds 4 through 7.

Those trades increase the Bears' overall draft pick count from six to 11.

With the first pick of the day in the fifth round, Poles selected left tackle Braxton Jones to provide some protection for quarterback Justin Fields.

He then went back to the defense and selected Miami (OH) edge rusher Dominique Robinson.

And with his first pick in the sixth round, Poles picked another offensive lineman, San Diego State tackle Zachary Thomas. Poles then added Baylor running back Trestan Ebner.

Poles' next two picks would be another pair of offensive lineman, Illinois center Doug Kramer and Southern offensive lineman Ja'Tyre Carter.

With pick No. 254, Poles picked Cal safety Elijah Hicks, his third DB of the draft. And with their final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Poles selected a punter to replace Pat O'Donnell, NC State's Trenton Gill.

On Day 2, the Bears added Washington cornerback Kyler Gordon to put opposite Jaylon Johnson with their first pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. Poles went back to the secondary with his next pic and selected Penn State safety Jaquan Brisker.

In the third round, Poles selected Tennessee wide receiver/return specialist Velus Jones Jr.
