Report: McCaskey told Nagy firing report ‘complete lie'

A new report from Thanksgiving Day vehemently denies an earlier report that said the Bears had told Matt Nagy the Lions game would be his last leading the team.

On Tuesday morning it was a report from Mark Konkol that caused the commotion surrounding Nagy’s future with the team. Later that day Nagy called Konkol’s report “inaccurate” saying he hadn’t spoken to ownership. But after that press conference, Brad Biggs reported that Nagy did go up to talk with George McCaskey. That might have been where McCaskey told Nagy the report was a “complete lie,” as Schefter reported. One more report from Dan Pompei said McCaskey also met with players and coaches to ensure them that Nagy was not going to be fired after the game.

Regardless of whether or not Nagy is coaching for his job against the Lions, the Bears desperately need a win. They’re currently riding a five-game losing streak. A loss to the winless Lions to push that streak to six would be tough to stomach for anyone inside Halas Hall.
