Former Purdue QB Danny Etling heading to LSU

Danny Etling couldn't nail down a starting quarterback job in the Big Ten, so he's going to try his luck in the SEC.

The former Purdue quarterback, who was granted release from his scholarship last week, is heading to LSU, according to a Monday report from 247 Sports.

Etling, per NCAA rules, will have to sit out the upcoming season and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Purdue announced last week that Etling was granted release from his scholarship. In two seasons with the Boilermakers, there was a lot of QB-related drama. During his freshman season in 2014, Etling took over as starter for Rob Henry midway through the season. Then, after maintaining the starting gig out of the offseason as a sophomore, Etling lost that job to Austin Appleby in the middle of last season.

All in all, Etling appeared in 13 games with the Boilermakers, just five last season.

Now he'll be competing to play against SEC defenses with the Bayou Bengals, who have their own question marks at the quarterback position.
