It’s Jeremy Colliton’s 34th birthday today! On this day in 1985, Coach Colliton was born. We decided to take a look back on some on some of the milestones from 1985.

Starting with the hockey world, Wayne Gretzky wrapped up a Stanley Cup-winning season with 208 points (73 G, 135 A), good for the third highest total of his career. As for the Blackhawks, they were captained by Darryl Sutter while Denis Savard paced the team with 105 points (38 G, 67 A).

The Blackhawks co-tenants at Chicago Stadium welcomed a rookie by the name of Michael Jordan. Jordan averaged 28.2 PPG in his rookie campaign while winning Rookie of the Year and finishing 6th in NBA MVP voting.

Sticking with the Chicago sports theme, future World Series-winning manager Ozzie Guillen hit .273 in his rookie season for the South Siders while Ryne Sandberg followed up his MVP season with 26 homers on the North Side.

Oh, and the Bears had a pretty decent season as well.

In the pop culture world, “Back to the Future” hit theaters for the first time and was 1985’s highest grossing film while “Amadeus” captured the Academy Award for Best Pitcure. Sesame Street debuted a new character named Elmo. Nintendo debuted the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) as well as Super Mario Bros in North America. Several top music artists came together to record “We Are The World” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a month.

Coca-Cola debuted a brand new formula called “New Coke” which lasted less than three months before returning to the original. The comic strip Calvin and Hobbes debuted in 35 newspapers across the United States. Pete Rose became baseball’s all-time hit king. And Microsoft released its very first version of Windows named Windows 1.0.

Happy Birthday, Coach!
