NHL releases statement regarding coronavirus concerns after NBA suspends its season

Earlier this week, the NHL, NBA, MLB and MLS jointly announced that it is temporarily banning locker-room access amid the coronavirus outbreak. On Wednesday afternoon, the NBA was reportedly preparing to play the rest of its games without fans in attendance.

But after a member of the Utah Jazz tested positive for the coronavirus, the NBA immediately suspended its season until further notice.

In response to the NBA's decision, the NHL released this statement:

The National Hockey League is aware of the NBA’s decision tonight to indefinitely suspend its season due to a player testing positive for the coronavirus. The NHL is continuing to consult with medical experts and is evaluating the options. We expect to have a further update tomorrow.

The Blackhawks' next game is on Friday when they take on the Ottawa Senators at the United Center. As of right now, the game is still scheduled to be play as usual, but circumstances are rapidly changing by the hour, so it remains unclear where things will stand by then.
