Brooklyn Nets' guard Spencer Dinwiddie joining the Nigerian national team

At the 2012 Olympics in London, Team USA set the record for points in a game, putting up a whopping 156 points in an 83-point drubbing of an overmatched Nigeria squad. Safe to say, the Nigeria men's national basketball team will not suffering losses like that any time soon.

It was reported this week that Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie would be acquiring a Nigerian passport to play for the Nigeria (D'Tigers) national team. Dinwiddie has never represented Team USA at the national level and will bring high-level point guard play to a national team that was severely lacking it.

The Nigeria national team also recently added Golden State Warriors associate head coach Mike Brown to be their new head coach. Brown and Dinwiddie's arrival combined with the talent already on the Nigeria roster—including Josh Okogie (Minnesota Timberwolves), Chimezie Metu (San Antonio Spurs), and NCAA standout Jordan Nwora (Louisville/NBA Draft)—will give the D'Tigers a strong foundation moving forward.

The 2021 Tokyo Olympics are set to go on at their rescheduled date of July 23rd, 2021
