Bulls announce jersey numbers for new roster additions

The Chicago Bulls flipped their roster on its head this offseason with a slew of free-agent, trade and NBA Draft additions.

On Thursday evening, the team announced each new player's jersey number for the upcoming season. Though training camps are still over a month away, it makes it that much easier to envision the new-look Bulls actually taking the floor.

Here's which digits each new Bull will wear, and a brief history of said number:

Lonzo Ball: 2

History: Ball is the 15th player in Bulls history to don No. 2, with the most recent being Luke Kornet from 2019-2021. Other recent notables include Jabari Parker (2019), Nate Robinson (2013), Jannero Pargo (2010), Thabo Sefalosha (2007-2009) and Eddy Curry (2002-2005). But by far the best Bull to ever wear the number was Norm Van Lier, from 1972-1978.

Alex Caruso: 6

History: Caruso is the 19th player in Bulls history to wear No. 6, with Cristiano Felício (2016-2021) and Keith Bogans (2011) the two most recent. Caruso wore No. 4 with the Los Angeles Lakers, but that number is one of four that hangs retired from the United Center rafters in honor of Jerry Sloan.

DeMar DeRozan: 11

History: DeRozan is the 20th player in Bulls history to don No. 11, with Javonte Green (2021), David Nwaba (2018) and Doug McDermott (2017) the three most recent. DeRozan has worn No. 10 his entire NBA career — with the Raptors and Spurs — but that number is retired by the Bulls in honor of Bob Love.

DeRozan hinted 11 would be his eventual number in a tweet on Aug. 11:

Tony Bradley: 13

History: Bradley is the eighth player in Bulls history to wear No. 13, with Joakim Noah (2008-2016) the best and most recent player to do so (honorable mention to Luc Longley). Bradley wore No. 13 at past stops with the Jazz and Thunder, and No. 11 with the 76ers, and said on his Discord channel that he intends to honor Noah by wearing it in Chicago:

Javonte Green: 5

History: Green is the 14th player in Bulls history to don No. 5, with Al-Farouq Aminu (2021), Bobby Portis (2016-19) and Carlos Boozer (2011-14) the three most recent. John Paxson (1986-1994), Andrés Nocioni (2005-2009), Guy Rodgers (1967-1968) and Jalen Rose (2002-2004) are other notables. Green wore No. 11 after being traded for at last season's deadline, but evidently stepped aside for DeRozan once he was acquired.

Ayo Dosunmu: 12

History: Dosunmu is the 15th player in Bulls history to wear No. 12, with Daniel Gafford (2019-2021) the most recent. Kirk Hinrich (2004-2016) is clearly the best player to don that number for an extended period, but also remember that Michael Jordan once wore it for a 1990 game against the Orlando Magic after his No. 23 threads mysteriously disappeared. Dosunmu wore No. 11 at Morgan Park High School and University of Illinois.

Marko Simonović: 19

History: Simonović is only the third player in Bulls history to don No. 19. Shaler Hamilton (1970) is the most recent player to do so, but Bob Boozer (1967-1969) is the best. Simonović also previously wore No. 11, for KK Mega Bemax of the Adriatic League.
