Bulls' Temple to be sidelined by left ankle sprain

Share

Garrett Temple will miss just his second game of the season Sunday night when the Bulls face the depleted Raptors at the United Center.

Temple landed on the injury report with a sprained left ankle that knocked him out of Friday's loss to the Heat after 21 minutes. Late Friday night, coach Billy Donovan said Temple would undergo an MRI exam on Saturday. A timeline on Temple's absence is expected on Sunday.

Temple, who had just moved back into his reserve role because of Lauri Markkanen's return from his sprained shoulder, suffered his injury early in the fourth quarter. He checked out and immediately retreated to the locker room. He is averaging 8.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2 assists, contributing to a solid bench attack for much of the season.

The Bulls have dropped two straight since the All-Star break despite getting healthier and their two opponents---the 76ers and Heat---missing key players. They'll get another opportunity against a shorthanded team on Sunday. The Raptors, who lost Saturday by the Hornets, are without five players who are in the league's health and safety protocols.

Coach Nick Nurse told reporters on Saturday that Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, Patrick McCaw and Malachi Flynn all will miss Sunday's game as well. The Raptors enter the contest at 17-21.
