Source: Bulls reach agreement to make Marc Eversley general manager

The Bulls have reached an agreement with Marc Eversley to be the organization's new general manager, a source confirmed, marking the third significant hire since Arturas Karnisovas landed the top basketball operations role.

Karnisovas, hired as executive vice president of basketball operations, interviewed several candidates before an agreement with Eversley was reached late Sunday, the source said. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the Eversley news.

Eversley, who is leaving his position as vice president of player personnel for the Philadelphia 76ers, joins the Bulls after Karnisovas reached agreements with J.J. Polk as an assistant general manager with expertise in salary cap management and Pat Connelly in a player personnel role.

Eversley, a Canadian native from Ontario, previously worked for the Washington Wizards and Toronto Raptors after starting his career as an executive with Nike. Former Raptors and 76ers executive Bryan Colangelo hired Eversley at two of his stops (Philadelphia, Toronto), and Eversley worked under Elton Brand in Philadelphia after Colangelo’s departure. Eversley is credited with playing a significant role in scouting Matisse Thybulle before the 76ers acquired him in a draft-dray trade with the Celtics in June 2019.

Eversley will be the first black general manager in Bulls franchise history after B.J. Armstrong and Randy Brown held assistant general manager roles. In an interview with NBC Sports Chicago, White Sox executive vice president Kenny Williams, who is African American, said Bulls president Michael Reinsdorf told him diversity hires were a priority to connect with players on a cultural level.

Eversley worked 10 years for Nike before rising from director of basketball operations to assistant general manager with the Raptors from 2006-13. He served as vice president of scouting for the Wizards for three years before joining the 76ers.

Karnisovas isn’t done building out his new-look front office. A source said the Bulls have interviewed former center Nazr Mohammed, who works for Sam Presti in Oklahoma City, for an unspecified role.
