The Blackhawks have agreed to a one-year contract extension with restricted free agent defenseman Viktor Svedberg, the team announced Wednesday.

Svedberg, 24, registered 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 49 regular-season games last season with the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs. He also tallied four assists in eight postseason contests.

The 6-foot-8 Swedish Swedish native is likely to spend the majority of the 2015-16 season in Rockford, but gives the Blackhawks some depth on a blue line that could use some help on the back end.

Svedberg signed an entry-level contract with the Blackhawks in October of 2013.
