Draft picture clears for Fire as MLS announces Generation adidas class

While the Fire have seen more players leave than come in during this offseason, the MLS SuperDraft will be one event sure to supplement the Fire roster.

The Men in Red have the first overall pick and the pool of players available to them has become clearer. On Thursday MLS announced the Generation adidas class, which is the group of college underclassmen who have signed with the league in advance of the draft.

Georgetown junior defender Joshua Yaro is among the top rated players and was included along with five other players. Wake Forest midfielder Jack Harrison, Akron midfielder Richie Laryea, Clemson goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell and Syracuse midfielder Julian Buescher were also GA signings.

Top Drawer Soccer’s latest draft big board had Yaro at No. 1 and four of the top five ranked players are from the GA class. In an interview last week Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez seemed to indicate the Fire were looking heavily at GA players.

“There are several high quality players that we expect to be in the draft,” Rodriguez said on Dec. 29. “We say it that way because the league has not yet announced of certain players, but if those signings occur as we expect than we think there are some really good players at the top end.”

The draft will take place on Jan. 14 in Baltimore, Md.
