Road Ahead: White Sox using final weeks to prepare for 2016

CSN's Chuck Garfien and Bill Melton preview how the White Sox will treat the last two weeks in the latest Road Ahead, presented by Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Honda Dealers.

The White Sox haven't been eliminated from postseason contention yet, but they're virtually out of the playoff race, and it's disappointing for a team that had high expectations this season.

"It's too bad," Melton said. "I'd like to be giving guys rests (in September) because we're going into the playoffs ... I wish we weren't in that situation, but we are."

Because the South Siders are getting ready to turn the page on 2015, that means they're going to take these final two weeks to see what they have for 2016.

Erik Johnson has been a nice surprise after improving his record to 3-0 in four starts since being called up by the White Sox, and now it might be time to see what their other top pitching prospect Frankie Montas can do with them.

"What you should do - and I think what Robin (Ventura) is going to do - is play a lot of guys you normally wouldn't play," Melton said. "That's what September baseball is. There are some guys down in that bullpen (that) maybe they haven't seen enough of - (for example), Montas. This is a guy (who) wants to be a starter; the White Sox would like him to be a starter. I would be really surprised if he didn't get a spot start."
