Brewers manager Craig Counsell named right-hander Brandon Woodruff his Opening Day starter on Friday.

Woodruff and Milwaukee will take on Kyle Hendricks and the Cubs next Friday at Wrigley Field.

Woodruff, 27, had a breakout 2019 campaign, posting a 3.62 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 22 starts. He missed two months post-All-Star break after straining his left oblique in July.

In one start against the Cubs last season, Woodruff surrendered four earned runs on six hits in four innings. The Cubs lost that April 5 matchup 13-10.
