The Cubs have signed reliever Chris Martin to a one-year deal, NBC Sports Chicago confirmed Tuesday.

The deal is worth $2.5 million and includes incentives that could escalate the value.

Martin, 35, is a six-year veteran who spent the last three seasons with the Braves, with previous stops with the Rockies, Yankees and Rangers.

He made 46 appearances for Atlanta in their 2021 championship season, finishing with a 3.95 ERA. His best season was 2019, when he posted a 3.40 ERA across a career-high 58 appearances between the Rangers and Braves.

The 6-foot-8, hard-throwing right-hander's four-seam fastball averaged 95 mph in 2021.

Pitching depth will be crucial in 2022 after the quick ramp-up to Opening Day. Cubs president Jed Hoyer stressed Monday the team's biggest focus is adding more pitching and pitching depth in the coming weeks.

That includes the bullpen, certainly with Codi Heuer expected to miss the entire season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

The Cubs have already added Jesse Chavez to the relief mix, signing the veteran to a minor-league deal over the weekend.

MLB.com's Jon Morosi was first to report the Martin signing.
