Indians' Hernandez gets visa, three-week suspension

Per Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Roberto Hernandez -- formerly known as Fausto Carmona -- has received his visa and will get to Cleveland this evening. A three-week suspension will begin today, meaning Hernandez could make his 2012 debut as soon as Aug. 11.

The three-week suspension really isn't too harsh, given there's little chance Hernandez was in pitching shape anyway. He'll be able to make starts in the minors to build up his strength while on the suspension.

Hernandez was arrested in January for using a false identity in the Dominican Republic. The soon-to-be 32-year-old posted a 5.25 ERA in 188 23 innings for Cleveland last season, thanks in large part to allowing a career-high 22 home runs in 32 starts.

Regardless, perhaps Camona can provide a fresh boost to a lagging Indians rotation. Heading into Saturday, the rotations of only three teams had higher ERAs: Colorado, Minnesota and Kansas City. On the season, four Cleveland starts have an ERA above 5: Derek Lowe, Josh Tomlin, Jeanmar Gomez and Ubaldo Jimenez.
